Event Description:

Exhibit Runs October 6th-29th

Derek's collection is based on locations and unique things that can only be found in Florida. From serene landscapes to vibrant local attractions, color and lines embrace the beauty of this wonderful place where he grew up. His medium of choice ranges from water color, to pen and ink to bold acrylics. In his own words, "My work represents the marriage of contemporary ideals with structural patterns that engage the senses through contrasting palettes in each painting. Through shape and color, each piece come to life with an array of subject matter pertaining to what I love about my hometown along with iconic locations from around the state." Most of his pieces are architecturally based with simplistic and fun themes. This collection is designed to satisfy any and every style!

Derek is a native Floridian, born in Lakeland, Florida. He moved to Ocala at age 12 and in the 9th grade had the opportunity to join the West Port High School Visual Arts Program provided through MCCA, Marion County Center for the Arts. Under the tutorship of local artist, Nina Lovell, Derek's passion for drawing blossomed and an artist was born. Following High School he studied Architectural and Interior Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. Derek recently relocated from Tampa to Orlando and still enjoys living in Central Florida where he finds much of his artistic inspiration. While most of his work comes from his own mind-sight, he enjoys doing commissions that allow him to add his unique touch. Derek is 29 years old.
